


Our English language can be traced back to many sources, and the most famous are the ancient Greek language, and the ancient Roman language, which was Latin. “The following words are from the ancient Latin derivative. Just think how exciting it is that over 2,000 years have passed, and we are still using words derived from these languages. We will look at the Latin verb Cedere.
1. Cede: (seed) "Yield" or give up something: surrender. In the American Civil War the
Southern States tried to cede from the Northern States.
2. Recede: (re seed') "Withdraw or "move" back; hence, become more distant.
3. Acceded: (ak see'ed) yielded to given consent to; assented to; agree.
4. Concession: (Kon sesh un) the act of yielding; a giving in to something.
